A classic New Zealand novel ‘Sydney Bridge Upside Down’ inspired this work. Kasia Pol and director James Ashcroft created a transformative and multidimensional world to tell a story of a young boy who tests the boundaries of his physical and psychological environment with devastating consequences. The minimal yet powerful stage design reflects the novels setting; dramatic landscape at ‘the edge of the world’ cliffs, ocean and vast skies. The work immerses the audience and performers in multiple merging realities and environments created by the use of reflective surfaces, off-balance spatial geometry, live-feed cameras, multiple projections and a rich interactive soundscape.
